For God So Loved!

He Gave His Word
Today’s Reading: Romans 3:21–26

But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets.
(v. 21 NKJV)

For God so loved, He gave His Word—prophesying our Savior. Before the birth of Christ, God gave more than three hundred prophecies that would later be fulfilled with Jesus’ birth and life. As 2 Peter 1:21 says, “Prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” God didn’t want us to miss—or misunderstand—this most significant event. He gave His Word as an assuring sign.

For God so loved, He gave His Word—propitiating our sin. With the birth of Christ, the Lamb of God was now in place to redeem the world. In 1 John 2:2 we read, “And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.” He gave His Word as an atoning sacrifice.

For God so loved, He gave His Word—promising our salvation. Ephesians 1:13–14 tells us, “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession.” He gave His Word as our abiding security.

Because God gave His Word, we can trust that we have a Savior who defeated sin—and that salvation is ours.
